For me, it was a matter of needing to be employed after getting my degree -- not too many journalism jobs that pay a living wage in the Mountain State. But that was more than 10 years ago, and quality of life in DC area has just gone so far downhill. It's not so bad in my nice little neighborhood in the city, but driving anywhere is hell. I'm hoping to leave within 5-10 years, but my fiancee's career options are so limited outside DC. Keep your fingers crossed!
