writing analysis like this until my dissertation.......and then, boy, did I have a lot to rewrite........my adviser was a native German speaker and wrote much better English than most native English (American) scholars

I was very grateful for his nit-picking analysis......I later read a Ph.D. dissertation from an Ivy League school that broke all the rules I had broken and then some......when I commented to someone about this I was told 'oh, in most of those schools they think if you got admitted you need no analysis of/help with your writing'
