I honestly have no idea from the direct antecedent to Novak stripping off his microphone and walking out what he was so upset about. The three men were talking about the prospects of the Florida senate race between Bill (?) Nelson and Katherine Harris. Novak was making some crapulous point about how Ronald Reagan was not the darling of the Republican establishment, how Tom Coburn, idiot extraordinaire of Oklahoma isn't liked by the Republican establishment, and how Carville shouldn't count Harris out.

Carville made a joking reference to how Novak had to show off for the Wall Street Journal editorial page that he had some backbone. Carville was chuckling at his own little joke, when Novak pronounced it bullshit, stood up, took off his microphone, and walked away from the set. The host continued to ask a question of Carville, and the two men tried to act as if nothing had happened.

Novak looked like a big baby.
