9. How many times have they canceled leaves in the last five years?
That would indicate how serious this is. Maybe they are expecting something, maybe they are just testing how it would be to have to respond very quickly to serious, coordinated terrorist attacks. Maybe they think we will be attacked; maybe they are planning to go on the offensive again. In spite of all the rumors about attacking Iran, I am skeptical because I haven't heard enough of a drum roll to justify going in there. Bush and friends are losing support for their Iraq action. Going into Iran without having first acquired a lot of public support would be disastrous. Maybe this has something to do with the finalization of the Iraqi Constitution. Maybe they expect trouble. Maybe they expect trouble as a result of having released all the Sunni prisoners today.

The bit about the bulletproofing of the draft board station is not meaningful. They are doing the same thing to post offices and other public buildings in L.A. That's pretty routine.

The only indication that I can see that we might have a terrorist attack is the fact that Bush's numbers are down and a demonstration is planned in D.C. on 09/24. The numbers were down right before 9/11 and that was also the date or close to the date that the newspapers were supposed to announce the results of their recount of the votes in the Florida 2000 election -- which showed Gore won. Then of course there were the terrorist attacks in London which (mercifully?) just happened to occur fairly soon after Blair's party was embarrassed in elections. If there is another terrorist attack in the next months, I'm going to seriously wonder what is going on.
