...that brought up the fact that unlike 9/11, there's no other country or terrorist group to blame it on. So then we start looking at who could have prevented it, who's job it is to increase our readiness and maintain our infrastructure.

I also wonder if it has to do with the fact that Bush*'s approval ratings were in the hole when it happened, so maybe the media thought that it was OK to start criticizing Bush*, whereas if he was enjoying 70% approval ratings or something they might have shied away.
