52. If I can step in here for just a sec as an "impartial observer",
I don't think jaysunb is stating his/her own opinions (at least I HOPE not!) but trying to point out the stereotypical thinking of many people. I don't think he/she is trying to justify it, just trying to help others understand the thinking of some of these hypocrites.

And it's important for the rest of us to understand what these people are thinking if we want to help educate them.

I understand the "group think" mentality that everyone's main purpose in life is to get married and give your parents grand-children. OK, I don't really understand it, but I did grow up in that environment.

In that environment and type of thinking, when someone surpasses child-bearing age and still isn't married - well, to the limited thinking of this group there can only be two reasons:
A; the person is just too unattractive to attract a mate, or
B; they are gay.

Of course, we here at DU see the ridiculousness of these conclusions. But some people actually think this way.

My father, for one. He actually did not believe that men and women could be friends without sex being involved. I can't tell you how many times I introduced him to women that were my friends, and he did not, COULD NOT, believe our relationship was Platonic.

Again, I'm not trying to justify this thinking. I'm just saying that some people actually think this way. No matter how ridiculous it sounds to us.
