Heard it live this AM on the World Service. It's about 25 minutes long and well worth listen.

What I found fascinating was that this lawyer had been an engineer and had lost his job under Hussein and his marriage broke up as a result of all the problems that created.

And yet....even with that, this man wants to see a fair trial. And, he supports the insurgency (not the killing of civilians, but troops are fair game). The key thing is the utter disgust he has for the Bush administration and the occupation of Iraq...no matter what he thought of Hussein, the invasion to occupy trumps all of the personal suffering he had under Hussein.

If you want to hear a fascinating trip into the mind of an Iraqi, this is a great interview to listen to...You get a chance to hear directly from an Iraqi what we will never hear on our media.

The Interview

This week, The Interview gets to grips with what some say is the most important criminal trial of our time – that of Saddam Hussein.

The former President of Iraq is facing charges of crimes against humanity in connection with the alleged massacre of nearly 150 people from the village of Dujail in response to an assassination attempt.

Dr Abdulhaq Alani is the coordinator of the former President of Iraq’s defence team. He passionately declares Saddam Hussein’s innocence, and explains why he felt driven to help the dictator and support his beloved homeland.

Join Carrie Gracie and her guest this week, Dr Abdulhaq Alani.
