7. Well, here's my thing about that.
Bush is certainly going to nominate one of the fouler of the conservative female judges out there. That certainly is bad.

BUT...that was what we expected would happen as soon as Sandra Day O'Connor announced that she was going to resign. The fact that instead of doing that on Day One, Bush is having to do it after the Miers Debacle, is from my point of view pure gravy. Because:

1) He has seriously rattled many of the power brokers in his own party, who now think he's either a traitor to their cause, or completely insane.

2) After swearing up and down that Miers was eminently qualified for the job, Bush's endorsement of the next nominee will ring a tad hollow.

3) Bush has been forced to change his mind about something. That cheers me up immensely.

When the new right-wing vamipre is nominated, well, we will get the fight we were always expecting. But Bush is now in a much weaker position going into it than he would have been if he'd rolled Vampira out in the first place.
