The journos are pissed because the WH tried to dump this crap on THEM. It's the reason they finally grew a set and took the gloves off.

The WH has gone Nixonian in that respect--no tidbits for the good press toadies anymore, save perhaps FAUX. And I'll bet even the Fauxites are keeping VERY GOOD notes, against the day that they may be accused of some malfeasance to get a WH staffer off the hook!
