If they were shooting with dry streets to begin with and later on it rained they would be screwed.

Rent the DVD of Ronin (prolly you already did) and listen to Frankenheimer's (RIP) commentary. It's what he said.

And it's easier to four-wheel-drift a BMW on cobblestones in the wet. :)
