Won't you wear my ring around your neck
To tell the world and I'm yours by heck
Let them see your love for me
And let them see by the ring around your neck

Old Gene Vincent song. Giving a girl your class ring was a big deal back in my high school days. The girl wore the ring on a gold chain around her neck. I think that the first girl to wear my ring was ******. (Don’t kiss and tell was the code back then.)

It was after a football game, she belonged to the drill team and I was a player on the football team. The best of my memory it was in the parking lot of the local theater just before we went in for a midnight show. That was something they did back then, they would show some second rate B movie at midnight on those nights that there was a football game.

It was in the parking lot that I ask that question, “would you wear my ring?” She said, “yes.” It didn’t last long though due partly to another custom of that time which was giving the girl your letter jacket. She wanted mine and I refused. Ah, so much for romance.

Do they still ask girls to wear their class ring? Or, let them wear your letter jackets?

Did you ever give a girl your class ring, or, did you ever take a guys class ring. Same question for the letter jacket.
