I was supposed to be going one place, but got distracted along the way. I was seven. I didn't get home until after midnight. There was no one at home when I got there, except a new puppy. I didn't care about being alone - I was having fun with the puppy.

My older brother was the first to get home. He said, and I quote, "What are you doing here, you're supposed to be dead?" Warms the heart doesn't it.

For years afterwards, I met people who looked for me when I was lost. It was especially fun when it was a substitute teacher. They would call the role, I'd say present, they'd announce to the class that they looked for me when I was lost.
