Most Shar-Peis have personalities that are similar to Chows than other dogs. They look cute, but they can be very tempermental.

I still have scars from where my uncle's Golden bit me when I tried to reach into his dish while he was eating. He grabbed my hand in his jaws and stared deep into my eyes, growling all the while. Now I make it a point of training my dogs to give up their food dishes, toys, and anything else to the humans on command. Just in case we have any small visitors, or they pick up something bad for them.

Not that your daughter did anything as foolish as I did when I was a kid.
