118. He was great - but I don't think other drummers underrated him
although perhaps the general public didn't recognize him as much as he deserved.

I started playing in rock bands during the late 60s. All the drummers I knew preferred Mitch Mitchell to Keith Moon, or Ginger Baker, or anyone else in rock at the time. He wasn't just a slam bam straight ahead rocker who played on the upbeat. He had a very soulful jazz downbeat feel and the way he played with the rhythm, as did Hendrix gave the Experience their unique sound. In my opinion he was the best at bringing out the best in Hendrix. When Hendrix had his brief flirtation with Buddy Miles, the contribution Mitchell made to the entire Hendrix universe became very apparent.
