How far do you want to differentiate his actions?

"I am now going to walk over to where the votes were cast."
"I am now going to pick up the urn."
"I am now going to return to the spot where I first announced my intentions."
"I am now going to open the urn"
"I am now going to tally the votes"

-or-

"I am now going to tally the votes"

...which includes the implied actions of walking over to the spot where the votes were cast, picking up the urn, returning to the original spot, and opening the urn.

So, I will have to reaffirm that I find his statement more than adequate to both convey his meaning and justify his resultant actions necessary to complete the task of "tallying the votes."
