But yes, I do believe POP music has deteriorated immeasurably since 1983 or so. (We HAVE to start separating POP from ROCK, guys. They're two different genres.) Before "Thriller," there was a lot of enjoyable pop tunes with actual musicians working out a process, strong melodies, and a communicative aesthetic not reliant on extra-musical tropes.

Technology improves in an inverse wave to the actual quality of the music.

Since ProTools, the downhill slope has quickly turned into a goddamn cliff.
