73. when I was an evil corporate lawyer in NYC for one of the monster
firms... I had a winter coat over $1,000 and a few pricey suits, though I'd go to Emporio Armani ("mid" line) rather than full-price Armani.

Expensive shoes and boots, but when I was working $450 shoes weren't considered the norm in NYC... $200 was high. These last few years, the prices of nice items of clothing have really, really, really skyrocketed.

The Jimmy Choos and Manolo Blahnik brands have really fucked things up when it comes to middle-incomers being able to buy nice, well made shoes every once in a while.

Some things are worth spending a little more on, like a good suit or a warm jacket. Items like jeans, cords, t-shirts, anything over $50 (or over $20 for a t-shirt) is just stupid. That can be $50 on sale, but I think $100+ jeans are an insult. I mean, for chrissakes, it is DENIM -- cut counts, yes, but you don't have to spend $$$ for well cut denim.
