I'm glad that you were able to get out of his class. He sounds like a complete asshole.

(I once had am older colleague tell me that "Single mothers are the cause of the decline of Western civilization." He was well aware that I am a single parent. He said it on the elevator, when no one else was around to hear him say such an offensive thing. I turned to him and I said, "Oh really, well I think that old curmudgeons who can't keep their hands off of pretty young students are to be blamed for the decline of Western civilization." His jaw dropped, that a younger instructor would say something like this to a tenured, long-time prof, or maybe also because rumors had gotten around about his touchy-feeliness with students. The elevator opened right after I said what I did, and then I stepped off...I never had any trouble with him after that. Thank god he's since retired. He was constantly at the center of departmental bullshit.)
