24. Sister-in-law is obscenely rich
She made a killing in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical R&D field in the Silicon Valley. Luck, skill, and just plain being in the right place at the right time, combined with stock options and hostile take-overs propelled her and my brother from a very comfortable life to one of obscene consumption and decadence. They managed to raise a loyal republican daughter in the process.

Sister and brother-in-law, both CPAs, are very comfortable, and I'm happy to report they are not traveling down the obscene consumption trail.

The poorest members of our family must be us. Poor by some standards (including US Gov. measurements), but we don't owe a damn nickel to anyone. We are free and happy, yet poor.
