For the BRILLIANT DU'ers, a question on the FOIA

FOIA, Freedom of Information Act.

Hi you BRILLIANT DUer! How'r'things? :)

This may be the wrong forum for this question, almost put it in Justice, but thought I'd go generic before fine-tuning, so any POLITE suggestions of which forum would be greatly appreciated!

Back in 1964 I had an Uncle commite suicide. Over the years, it caused a rift in the family. My side thought that the out-laws may have actually staged the 'suicide' and cited some contradictory information they had heard from the cops. At the very least, they felt he was 'driven to it'.

In any case, and watching too many cold cases on TV, I was wondering how I go about requesting the police report and coroner/Medical Examiner report for my uncle's case? Do I use the FOIA or is it more public domain and I just request through the correct offices?

I've been involved in researching my genealogy over the last couple of years and this has just gotten my interest piqued.

Any info/guidance would be appreciated!

Thanks!
JFMM
