19. I prefer to let it slide if it is a public comment...
...and then discuss it with the individual privately. One on one, it's an argument I know I cannot lose, so I don't hesitate to engage in it. If it is a person who will not stop, or you know a private conversation is out of the question, a little public humiliation never hurts.

Let's suppose the individual in question is named Charlie.

Ask someone else, in a loud voice, if they heard about Charlie's visit to the doctor. When they reply that they had not, tell them about it: Charlie goes to the doctor and the doctor tells him, "You've got to stop masturbating." Charlie asked the doctor why, and the doctor replied, "Because I'm trying to examine you."

Do this sort of thing in the right tone of voice once or twice and Charlie learns not to open his yap inappropriately, you know?
