Back in '98
Minnesota played great
Set the NFL record for scoring
It looked like the tide
Would finally change for their side
And their first Super Bowl victory would come roaring

Just a field goal to go
And it's to the big show
With their first ever title awaiting
But the football fates
Never thought it too late
To try something so irritating

The Vikes had no fear
Their kicker was perfect all year
Gary Anderson had made every attempt
But what happened did suck
It really sums up their bad luck
It made all the Minnesota fans so verklempt

The snap it was fine
So was the offensive line
The announcers they said it was certain
But the Vikes were outflanked
As the kick it was shanked
For the purple and gold it was curtains

It is hard to believe
They've had no championship relief
Since that brutal moment twelve seasons ago
The roof caved in that day
The collapse never quite went away
Like the wreck of the HHH Metro
