No, I'm the recycler nut, but she also is real big on recycling and environmentalism. In NYC, though, we only have to separate as paper, glass, plastic, and metal. And soon it will likely go to just paper in one bin, and plastic/metal/glass together, to make things easier for everyone.

No shoes in the house doesn't bother me, I prefer the heck out of it, and that's how I grew up as well. I simply cannot wear shoes inside, even in other people's homes, and I've been like that all my life. When I moved to Hawaii, where it was normal, I felt such relief since no one was shocked any more by me taking my shoes off. Plus I hate shoes to begin with. I only wear socks inside - don't even like slippers or flip flops - or go barefoot. It means I go through a lot of socks, but I don't mind.

My partner went balistic once when we had a house guest and she accidentally got a bunch of water on the floor so sopped it up with her bath towel after she dried herself. Partner was ready to burn that towel because it had touched the bathroom floor... she was really upset and livid. I think even beyond standard Japanese upsetness, almost psychotic I thought.
