25. Here the part where he talks about the "nature of terrorists"

JOE KLEIN: The third one was hunger.

HOWARD DEAN: Oh, hunger. First of all, I disagree with John McCain. I don't think world hunger fuels terrorism. What it fuels is sympathy for terrorism. People who are terrorists are, in some ways, I don't know if psychopathic would be fair to say, but they have something clinically the matter with them. Because they use just causes to justify murder of innocent people. There's no justification of that under any circumstances, whether it's hunger or poverty. It's like saying, "Poor people commit crime because they're poor and they're desperate." That doesn't happen very often. Poor people and hungry people have the same sense of morality that everybody else does.

It's hunger that fuels sympathy for terrorists, and in that degree, I totally agree with you. And there are some things we can do about it, and that we ought to be doing about it. And they range all the way from food programs to population control programs. And we need to have a much better handle on that. And we frankly ought not to be afraid to mention in public discourse the word "condoms" once in a while.

Note that Dean's position on the I/P conflict is similar to President Carter's and President Clinton's.
