good point.

However, I was under the impression that the phones don't work not because they are unable to connect to a tower, but, because of their increased range and high speed movement in a high flying airliner, that they connected to too many towers at once, causing an overload in the switching system and resulting in disconnection.

This may be evidence of that theory.

However, my initial excitement has waned somewhat due to the finding of other sources that still mention the phone not working.

Like I said in my original post, what got me excited was not the fact that they said the phone didn't work, but the fact that they scrubbed this from their article.

It seems such an innocuous thing to report UNLESS standard cell phones really don't work under these conditions and "they" didn't want us to know about it.

Still, I am considering removing my tinfoil hat on this one. What initially seemd important now seems only curious - well ate least without any further information that is.
