48. You're right. Amgen is the county's largest private

employer - over 6000 Thousand Oaks employees. (They do their manufacturing in Puerto Rico, though.) The largest employer overall is the government - 42,900 federal, state, and county jobs according to the March State of CA Employment Development Report.
