People devoid of compassion seldom "like a good pet" unless it is to torture them as many sociopaths are said to do in their childhood.

Their lack of compassion can be seen via their policies and actions.

you can't help send men to die for a lie, advocate hatred of gay people and steal from the poor to bolster the rich and have the compassion necessary to bond with a good animal.

I consider this an axiom. Perhaps you believe sociopaths can feel compassion toward animals, but I for one disagree.
