32. Thanks Shipmate
It is a selfish act of Chiefs to take care of their Sailors. And we had one helluva support network to make us strong and respected up and down the chain. A good closed door ass chewing by a Chief was much more effective than Captain's Mast and its corresponding Paper Trail and Sailors knew it. A Chief who doesn't stand up for his Sailors isn't a Chief in my mess. I recall a few commands ago that a young Chief went two quarters in a row without nominating one of his Sailors for Sailor of the Quarter. I asked him why and he said he didn't have any Sailors who were worth a shit. I told him a Sailor is a reflection of his Chief so he apparently wasn't worth a shit. With a little grooming and old goat mentoring he had the next Sailor of the Quarter. God, I loved those Anchors.
