I had already started to drift away from the church and only made my Confirmation because my mom emotionally blackmailed my brother and I. Soon after it I was at a mass and a priest gave his homily speech about a plane crash that happened that week. A plane bound for Paris exploded off the coast of New York. Over 200 people died and what did the priest want to talk about? He didn't want us to pray for the dead or their grieving families. He didn't want us to make donations to help them out? He wanted to let us know that there were unmarried couples traveling together and let us know what God does to people who fornicate. Quite a few heads turned when I said I don't have to listen to this garbage and walked out.
