42. successful branding.
bush's handlers came up with an image, not a canidate. they targeted and sold their "product" to the people in this country who are least likely to question the value of a product. just like some people will buy anything with the nascar brand on it because they like nascar. they never question why nascar is so great, they just accept it.
same with bush voters. they bought an image and a brand name. it was easy when the product was packaged as "patriotic, wholesome, conservative, religous". now they are reluctant to change their brand loyalty because it would be like admitting they were wrong in the first place.
