"I applaud Mr. Houx for his service, just as I applaud any other soldier who is brave enough to take up arms in defense of his country. I find it troubling, however, that one of the most vocal opponents of our president, our country and our mission in Iraq has chosen to fight for a cause he claims is wrong. Mr. Houx's rhetoric against the war on terror places him in agreement with the most radical fringes of the Democratic Party, and I am left to question his logic and motivation."

"Applause" is useless to a combat soldier. What an outrageous, typically chicken-shit Republican statement. Get thine ass down to a recruiter immediately if you have half the balls of this man that you dare to criticize. I'm not current or ex-military, but I lay my life on the line regularly as a volunteer firefighter for my community - with no compensation whatsoever.
Democratic resolve and willingness to serve is what holds this country together, not wild Republican spending of dollars and lives, while waving a flag in posh safety. Either you are the biggest hypocrite in Maine, or the most classic case of cognitive dissonance that I've come across lately. An apology to the family of this brave soldier would be a start to repairing the damage to your reputation, which is spreading across the country.
