397. Nastiness is the norm
I kind of stumbled in to this place less than a year ago. I would like to characterize it as republican shit-head meanness, but its not. It is typical democratic behavior. As Dem's we feel our particular interest is the cause that all should rally behind and don't understand (or like) it when we fail to convince others to rally behind our banner. The Re pubs up to 06' rallied and didn't break ranks. They attacked the Dem's. They made destroying our platform cause celebre(pardon the spelling). That tactic is no longer working for the Re pubs. Somewhere we as Dem's figured that maybe this "Rovian"tactic might be useful. It's not. These "attack at all costs" tactic will weaken us.
During the last debate between Clinton and Obama it was evident that the 2 are excellent Candidates. I was impressed with their performances and I was most impressed with the fact that the 2 acknowledged that although opponents they will renew their acquaintances with each other once the process has settled. We as supporters should also "tone down the rhetoric".
After having listened and watched Clinton I was more comfortable with supporting her should she win the nomination. I still firmly support Obama. I also realize that there is a good chance he may or may not become president. Each candidate has a strong platform each has negatives as well. As supporters of our respective candidates we should highlight our candidates strengths. I hope that all supporters will stop the pettiness and hate-mongering, but i doubt anyone will take it to heart.
The nastiness needs to stop. It only serves to make a petty person feel smug and superior with out every really convincing anyone other than themselves that their candidate is best. It is strictly self-serving.
To you newbies like myself, keep the faith there are those of us who empathize with your wanting to participate and encountering demeaning assholes, don't let their mean-spiritedness deter you.
