The "if I'd known then what I know now" excuse is absurd vis-a-vis Robert Byrd's powerful speech with cautionary words to his colleagues about the hubris of the administration, the lack of evidence, the abrogation of Congressional responsibility and yes, the rush to war.

He spelled out so eloquently what such a hasty vote, prior to midterm elections, would result in and sadly, his words were prophetic!
