3. It wasn't Rove
The Clintons and their assorted sellouts from Bill's administration have watched the last decade very, very closely, and they've learned all the wrong lessons from it. Rove is indeed their teacher, though he hasn't given any in-house instruction. Rather, they've studied his every move, and noted the fact that so far, he's gotten away with it.

And although some good things have come out of the Center for American Progress (David Sirota...and I can't think of any others), it appears now that Podesta built it as a propaganda/money machine, not with the intent of undoing the mighty wurlitzer, but rather with the intent of competing with it in its areas of expertise; outdoing it, even.

I look at the former Clinton staffers - not just the people in WVWV - even people like McCurry and Stephalupagus and Carville and Begala, and even some of the junior players, and I just see a bunch of goddamned sellouts. They all cashed in, and now that they play the game from the centers of power, we see most of them corrupted by it. I'm sure there are some who retained their principles, and it's unfortunate that none of them come to mind right now.
