61. That's the point, he's an economic Democrat
You don't win in Mississippi by running social liberals. This state, like most of the South, leans to the left on economics, to the right on social issues, and this is reflected in the Mississippi legislature, and in Childers himself.

All Musgrove has to do is paint this as him running against Pontotoc. Thad Cochran is our elder statesman. People actually refuse to run against him out of respect. He's still from Pontotoc, and so is Wicker. Musgrove will do very well in every part of the state that is not Pontotoc because there is a feeling in MS that this particular part of the state maintains an unfair hammerlock on everything in it. There are actually good reasons to believe that too.

It's a war of geography, and given that there is not a single thing that Musgrove is liberal on, there is nothing, nothing at all, with which Wicker can attack him on. His appointment, geographically, just makes no sense, no sense at all, because there is always one senator who plays to either the coast or the delta (or a combination of the two) and one to that area around Tupelo.

There is simply no way Musgrove can lose it.....not with gas as high as it is when combined with who he is
