The democratic party’s Rules and Bylaws Committee will be meeting this morning to decide how to resolve issues involving Florida and Michigan. It is safe to say that this will be among the most important meetings in that committee’s history. Millions of people across the country are going to be paying very close attention to it, and the corporate media and internet bloggers will be discussing it for days to come.

Also, in those days to come, the final three democratic primaries will be held. Again, millions of Americans will be paying close attention to the outcomes. It is likely that the remaining super delegates will announce which candidate they are endorsing after the June 3rd primaries in Montana and South Dakota.

It is interesting to consider the differences between the democratic and republican party. When was the last time that democrats were so focused on the last states to hold primaries? Our last two candidates are each far stronger than the republican nominee. In fact, John Edwards, Joseph Biden, and Christopher Dodd were all good candidates who were capable of defeating anyone the republican party could have nominated.

We have a historic race between a woman and a black man. Can anyone say this would have happened in the republican party?

Senators Clinton and Obama have each appealed to huge numbers of the democratic base. Senator McCain was the republican bosses compromise candidate.

Our candidates have appealed to what is best in America. McCain has shown a willingness to humiliate himself by bowing to his masters.

For the first time in 40 years, the grass roots is exercising the ability to decide the party’s nominee in a manner that holds the promise of repairing the foundation of our Constitutional democracy. There is a new energy being felt across the land.

In 1968, that same energy was derailed. We have some unfinished business to attend to. Enjoy this day, and prepare for one of the most interesting weeks in recent times. And then, let’s start a coordinated effort to win the November elections.
