I grew up and lived in a ranching community. My grandfather ran a big cattle ranch. My friend's all worked cattle, I worked cattle, we spent three weekends in May branding. I never rode for pleasure, every time I got on a damned horse it was going to be a long tough day in the saddle. To me, wearing shiny boots and a big hat when you have no connection to the cattle or the land is akin to dressing up like a police officer or a fireman cause it's cool.
