I think the Senate seat was a "hot button" sort of issue that the media couldn't wait to play with, but I do not think they will ever be able to get a conviction on it unless they have a lot more on tape than what I've seen. (Always possible!)

I DO think, however, that they have a lot of stuff on Blago that they will be able to convict with. It isn't gonna be "sexy" and it will be nuts and bolts stuff, but they WILL probably get him for the stuff like using state staff for campaign work on the taxpayer dime. It isn't much of a secret that it goes on ALL the time here in Illinois, and Blago and his staff are no exception.

I think they will also probably nail him for pay to play--especially on stuff like the Health Facilities Planning Board and few other high ticket ventures. Similarly, state hiring practices at CMS have been pretty shaky for a while now. Several of Blag's handpicked guys already got nailed for that a while ago and that is gonna end up biting him on the butt too, I think.

I think he's also pretty vulnerable on some state ethics violation and THAT will probably be his undoing when it comes to impeachment given how much the legislature dislikes him.
