but the Democrats have solid control of the legislature, veto-proof, so they'll be able to make a way for us to hold the seat.

Now for your main point, I disagree. Because as long as a Republican's in the seat, it's another vote for Frist, and we can't afford anymore. But we don't have any Zell Miller governors. The most conservative Democratic governor was Ronnie Musgrove in Mississippi, but he lost in 2003. Now it's Blanco in Louisiana, but who she appointed would be almost a forgone conclusion, basically whoever loses the Senate race between Rep. Chris John and State Treasurer John Kennedy. The winner will have Breaux's seat. Vitter is going down. (although it's too bad it won't be Mitch Landrieu, if Landrieu became VP it would be cool to have her brother take her seat)
