40. voter turnout by size of precinct in Cuyahoga
I did some research looking into voter turnout by size of precinct in Cuyahoga County. Wow! In Democratic precincts (where a majority voted for Kerry), when the size of the precinct is greater than 1000 registered voters, voter turnout was only 48.7% (not counting absentees or provisionals); yet when Kerry-majority precincts have less than 695 reg. voters the turnout was 61.1%. This is a drop of 12.4% and probably is due to lack of sufficient numbers of polling stations in large precincts. In majority-Bush precincts, the voter turnout did not drop off. It was at 66.2% in the smallest precincts and 67.6% in the largest precincts. So these large (>1000) proBush precincts either had a larger number of voting stations and therefore no long waits or the economic and social conditions of the Republican voters allowed them to endure the long lines more than the Democratic voters. I hope to write up this report tonight.
