How do you definitively make the statement that nobody who was bigoted against ANY other group would have been considered? Let's keep in ming you're speaking about the man who delivered a certain speech in Philadelphia this year you may remember... in which it was pointed out his own Grandmother had racist tendencies for cripes sake. This is not a man who sees moral failings in one aspect of a person's worldview as automatically disqualifing them from having redeeming qualities. Surely that is one thing we should be able to perceive here?

(And before answering, just for a little context... you're speaking to an atheist. Discrimination against us isn't as virulent and ugly, but it's stil considered almost universally acceptable and even borderline desirable in politics. Want to bet whether we have an openly gay or openly atheist president first? ;))
