An investigator has confirmed that a unit operating out of the Rasheed District of Southwest Baghdad is under investigation in for the deaths of several detainees.

Members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division out of Schweinfurt, Germany, may have been involved in the deaths while they were deployed last year, according to Army officials. They haven’t released a date or exact location for the incident, but have said the detainees were captured as part of combat operations. They were not in a detention facility at the time of their deaths, according to Army officials.

Christopher Grey, chief of public affairs for the Army Criminal Investigation Command, said he could release no further details because the investigation is still being conducted.
