A question about the law of attraction

I've been familiar with the law of attraction since way back years ago when Wayne Dyer talked about it. I've never been able to use it for anything spectacular so far but I blame that on my failure to meditate very often. ;) I definitely think there is a law of attraction and that you draw to you what you focus your thoughts on. But, I've heard so many people talking like our thoughts are the *only* things that influence events in our lives. I've been thinking about this a lot and I can't help but have some really big questions about it. For instance, what if two people focus their thoughts on the opposite outcome of a particular situation. Who wins? The person who meditates more? What if I focus my positive thoughts and energy into being able to fly like a bird does? Who wins? Me or the laws of physics? I would love to hear some input from others but I am coming to the conclusion that we don't live in a vacuum; There are so many other thoughts besides our own, many perhaps, focused on the same situations. Couldn't it be that our thoughts influence the outcome of any particular situation but the end result is created by the *accumulated* thoughts and intentions of many people plus, the forces of nature and physics?

Maybe some of the promoters of this new "intentional thinking" have addressed these questions, but I have never heard them. Why do they always fail to mention that the physical laws of the universe cannot be overcome by just meditating and why don't they ever mention that when someone fails in their attempts to use the "secret" that it may be because so many other thoughts are out there counteracting their own? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
