40. not everyone sees the need for a funeral

I have only been to one in my life - my brother's. But certainly some sort of service should have been held for her siblings; not acknowledging her death was hugely damaging to her siblings.

When I was a kid in England, my grandmother used to clean the grave of a girl named Beryl who wsas killed in an air raiid during WWII at age 11. I used to see Beryl's mother walk past the church on the road, and she never even looked over. Why can't she do this, I asked my grandmother. Grandma said she can't, she just can't. I was disturbed by this, I felt she didn't care about her daughter. When that lady died over 60 years after Beryl did, a faded picture of Beryl was found in her purse, she had carried it with her for over six decades. And her last words were, I will see my baby girl again. It taught me a lesson that you can never really know what is in a person's heart.
