They send the wrong body back to Australia after he was killed in Iraq. I just saw his mother giving them a piece of her mind. His widow called the OZ PM.
<snip from SMH>
AN INQUIRY will investigate whether an error by a junior Australian officer led to the body of an unknown soldier being sent to Melbourne instead of that of Private Jacob Kovco, the soldier who was killed by a bullet from his own gun in Iraq last Friday.

Sources told the Herald yesterday the mix-up was likely to have happened at the civilian mortuary in Kuwait where Private Kovco was taken for identification.

It is thought the body of a soldier from Eastern Europe was wrongly identified as the Australian's. Casualty lists for this month in Iraq show no soldier with a similar surname to Kovco.

A severely embarrassed Government and military will send a senior defence official and civilian pathologist to the Middle East next week to investigate.

They will also look into how Private Kovco died. The Defence Minister, Brendan Nelson, yesterday changed the original story that the 25-year-old had shot himself while cleaning his pistol.
