The two you name are so tragic. Buchanan, with the death of his fiance in the 1820s. Pierce, as he and Jane watched their only child crushed on his way to his inauguration in a train accident. They were incompetent. Their incompetency is nowhere near the evil - for the first time ever by the presidency - we face. Thank you for posting, and I appreciate the opportunity to disagree.
