78. I understand why people have cause for optimism
If the Dems are able to take back even part of Congress in November, the brakes will come on to an extent. But the truth I see is that even if by some miracle the Dems take full control of Congress, and all of BushCo are summarily frog-marched to the Hague, and a Dem was elected president in '08, we're still going the same direction...just not as fast. That's because the people in our government aren't The Government. I don't quite understand who's really running things -- call them Global Corporatists or Global Mafia. I just know they have their tentacles deep into everything, everywhere, and the good guys -- the REAL good guys -- are token, and few and far between.

I'm not proposing anything. But my honest feeling is that we'd have to completely dismantle our government and start again in order to truly fix what's wrong. And I don't think the ultimate PTB would allow that in the end, no matter how much care we took to block them from infiltrating once again.

It's like we (the people) hit a fog bank a few miles back, and we're racing toward a 20-car pile up somewhere ahead of us at 60mph, asleep at the wheel. At some point we may wake up and slam on the brakes. But I don't think it'll be soon enough to stop us skidding into disaster.
