Quite the opposite-
I am telling them they are FUCKED and they need to do EVERYTHING
they can to beat the odds against tehm.

I am telling them, the only way to avoid becoming cannon fodder
is to give themselves options for higher education, other that military
enlistment.

I am not worried about my "disabled" kids.
They would never be able to pass the military physical examinations.

I AM worried about my gang bangers, many of whom are
very intelligent kids who CAN get college scholarships or
other employment opportunities.

If that makes me a "horrible person" in your frame
of reference, than I am fully justified in my
feeling that there is no hope.

I can only hope that none of my students ever come in contact with you.
