144. You had hope before, now you have none.

Yet very little has actually changed, save your perceptions. This idealised 'America' you speak of, that you say is 'over'...it never existed. It was only ever a dream, an ideal. A mirror we held before us that showed us not as we are, but as we could be. And now that you've seen the true reflection, you just want to sit in a dark room so you don't have to look at it again. But the fight goes on. And America WILL be better than it is--it's just going to take time. If the members of the suffrage movement, the labour movement, the civil rights movement, the gay rights movement, etc, had NOT persevered despite fiercely entrenched opposition, armed with naught save their hopes and their numbers, we'd not have gotten much of anywhere.

'...never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never--in nothing, great or small, large or petty--never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy. - Winston Churchill
