It gives a clear picture of the geographical relationships of the attacked islands in relationship to the mainlands of Japan and Korea.

I'm not sure what this says about the reason for the atomic bomb attacks on Japan. I have never seen the fear of a USSR attack on Japan officially noted as a reason for our use of the atomic bomb. Henry Stimson, the USSR Secretary of War, defended it by noting that the alternative was a long drawn out American war with Japan. If a USSR takeover of Japan was the reason, why didn't he talk about that? That would have made a lot more sense than the reason that he gave.
